Airbus to build major maintenance center at Wunstorf Air Base
Airbus is constructing a major new maintenance center at the Wunstorf Air Base in Germany. The facility, which is part of a large-scale construction project in the Hannover region, is designed to service all 53 A400M aircraft stationed at the base.
The hangar is a massive structure measuring 145 meters wide, 85 meters deep, and 30 meters high, designed without internal pillars to accommodate up to three aircraft simultaneously. The project, costing in the low triple-digit millions, aims to employ between 350 and 400 people.
In an effort to prioritize ecological construction, the facility will utilize geothermal energy for 65 percent of its heating needs, supplemented by 25 air-to-water heat pumps. The center is expected to begin operations by mid-2027.
