Airbus workers in Spain have voted to continue an indefinite strike, rejecting a proposal to temporarily suspend the industrial action for negotiations. In a recent vote, 81.2% of employees at the Getafe, San Pablo, and Tablada centers chose to maintain the strike, while workers in Albacete and Cádiz expressed solidarity with this decision. Conversely, workers in Illescas voted to pause the strike to allow for further discussions.
Airbus has described the ongoing labor dispute as a ‘critical situation’ for its business and customers. The company’s current proposal includes linking salaries to real inflation (IPC) and a 7.6% recovery of purchasing power over a five-year period. Airbus has also committed to presenting a new proposal to unions on Thursday, September 3, following mediation efforts through the Interconfederal Service of Mediation and Arbitration (SIMA).
The Secretary of State for Industry has expressed concern regarding the conflict, noting that the future of the aerospace sector in Spain could be at stake. Airbus maintains that its offer provides a solid foundation for a lasting agreement, though it has previously conditioned the application of the proposal on the immediate suspension of the strike.
