Air‑conditioning use and low‑cost tips to keep bedrooms cool in summer

A climatization technician explains that leaving a modern air‑conditioner on throughout the night typically costs about one euro, because the unit reduces power once the set temperature is reached. Turning it off forces the system to restart and consume more energy when the room reheats.

Alternative cooling methods focus on preventing heat from entering the bedroom. Closing blinds or curtains from mid‑morning, using thermal shades, and ventilating only at dawn or dusk for ten to fifteen minutes creates a cross‑draft without letting in the daytime heat. Fans can improve perceived coolness, while natural fabrics such as cotton or linen bedding and light sleepwear reduce body heat. Eliminating internal heat sources—charging devices, bright bulbs, or heavy blankets—also helps maintain a lower temperature. Light meals in the evening and staying hydrated further support comfortable sleep without air‑conditioning.
