Rey Vaqueiro's plane catches fire after runway excursion in Parelhas

A Cessna 550 Bravo executive jet carrying Brazilian singer Rey Vaqueiro caught fire after veering off the runway during a landing in Parelhas, Rio Grande do Norte, early Sunday morning. The aircraft, registration PP-WMO, reportedly failed to stop within the runway limits, crossed the end of the strip, and descended into a ravine where it was consumed by flames.

There were eight people on board, including the singer, five passengers, and two crew members. All occupants managed to evacuate the aircraft before the fire spread and were taken to the Parelha Municipal Hospital for medical evaluation. Officials reported that no serious injuries occurred, with occupants suffering only minor abrasions.

The Fire Department spent approximately five hours battling the blaze and cooling the aircraft's turbines. The accident has resulted in the total destruction of the plane. The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) has been notified to investigate the cause of the incident, with preliminary reports suggesting a potential braking system failure.

Due to the accident, Rey Vaqueiro's team has canceled scheduled performances in Custódia and Canhotinho, Pernambuco. New dates for these shows are expected to be announced soon.
