Airfryer maintenance and usage guidelines from experts
Experts have provided guidance on the optimal use and maintenance of airfryers to ensure food quality and machine longevity.
Regarding usage, certain foods are discouraged due to potential issues. Large poultry may result in uneven cooking, while rice is unsuitable as the machine lacks the necessary water for boiling. Users are advised against using large amounts of dry spices or light dried herbs and vegetables, as these can damage the hot air system. Additionally, wet batters can stick to the base, and fresh vegetables may become dehydrated and lose texture.
For maintenance, microbiologist Salomé Gião recommends a thorough cleaning of the entire unit at least every four weeks, or every two to three weeks with frequent use, to prevent the buildup of fat and food residue. While deep cleaning is periodic, the basket and tray should be washed with water and detergent after every single use to maintain hygiene and prevent odors.
