Airline passengers face sleep challenges and luggage losses – guidance offered

Airline crews report common passenger habits that hinder comfortable sleeping on flights. Travelers are advised to choose seats over the wing for reduced turbulence, request extra blankets, use earplugs and eye masks, wear comfortable clothing, and avoid sleeping with their head in the aisle or reclining too far, which can block the space of the passenger behind.

For passengers whose checked baggage is delayed or lost, EU regulations allow reimbursement for essential items. Airlines expect receipts for purchases such as toiletries, underwear, basic clothing, swimwear or child necessities. Claims must be filed using the EU's Your Europe portal within 21 days of baggage receipt, and the amount reimbursed should reflect the actual, reasonable cost of the items bought.
