Spain railway disruption: Madrid-Andalusia high-speed service suspended

High-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalusia remain suspended following a serious train accident in Urda, Toledo. The disruption has caused significant travel challenges during the All Saints' Day holiday period, leading to a surge in demand for alternative transport.

Major airlines including Iberia, Air Europa, Volotea, and Ryanair have increased flight capacities and frequencies between Madrid and Andalusian cities like Seville and Malaga. Iberia has reportedly capped economy prices at 99 euros to assist travelers. Meanwhile, ride-sharing platforms have seen a massive spike in activity, with BlaBlaCar reporting a tenfold increase in bookings and Uber launching a fixed-rate service between Madrid and Seville.

In addition to the accident, the transport sector faces further disruption due to a strike call by the Semaf union. A 24-hour total strike is scheduled for November 10, with additional partial strikes on November 12, affecting Renfe services and potentially impacting connections to the Murcia region.
