Airlink Pumas defeat DHL Stormers XXIII in Currie Cup
The Airlink Pumas secured a 29-7 bonus-point victory over the DHL Stormers XXIII in a Carling Currie Cup match at Mbombela Stadium. The win moves the Pumas to fifth place on the log, while the Stormers sit in sixth.
Despite the Stormers controlling much of the territory and scrum play, the Pumas capitalized on opportunities. The hosts led 15-0 at halftime following a penalty from flyhalf Revaldo Fleurs and tries from scrumhalf Tom Bursey and winger Banie Britz. Although Mfundo Ndhlovu scored for the Stormers early in the second half, the Pumas responded with two tries from rolling mauls by Jan-Henning Campher and lock JJ Scheepers.
The Stormers faced additional setbacks as scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer was forced from the field with an arm injury. This adds to the team's injury concerns heading into the new Vodacom URC season.
