Airmet forecasts challenging years for travel agencies due to geopolitical instability

Airmet, a management group representing 543 travel agencies, reports that 2026 sales growth has been much lighter than initial expectations. General Manager Susana Fonseca stated that the year fell short of projections due to geopolitical instability, specifically citing conflicts in the Middle East, and rising fuel prices.

While the group saw an 18% increase in sales volume between 2024 and 2025, current data through August 31 indicates only a very slight increase compared to the same period last year. Fonseca noted that profitability has been affected, particularly by last-minute campaigns. Looking ahead to 2027, she anticipates an extremely challenging year but maintains a cautious optimism, noting that the sector remains resilient and possesses significant room for growth through technological and marketing solutions.

Key destinations for the network include the Caribbean, Cape Verde, and the Spanish islands. Major tour operators leading sales include Newblue, Travelplan, and Solférias.
