Airports Authority of India surveys Majuli for proposed airport

A six-member team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has conducted a preliminary feasibility survey in Majuli, Assam, to assess the establishment of a proposed airport on the river island.

The project is part of a broader initiative by the Assam government to enhance regional air connectivity, following an announcement by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in February regarding four new airport projects. During the survey, AAI officials inspected various locations, including areas from Jengraimukh to Darbar Chapori in Kamalabari, to evaluate land suitability, geographical conditions, and technical connectivity.

Majuli Deputy Commissioner Ratul Chandra Pathak accompanied the team, which included several Deputy General Managers and technical officers. While the survey marks a significant initial step, officials noted that a final decision regarding the most suitable location will be made following further technical assessments.
