Airports Company South Africa appoints Siphamandla Mthethwa as CEO

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has appointed Siphamandla Mthethwa as its new chief executive officer, effective November 1, 2026. The decision follows a Cabinet ruling on September 23.

Mthethwa, a qualified Chartered Accountant, returns to the state-owned airport operator after previously serving in a senior financial capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic. During his previous tenure, he managed the company's liquidity and funding during a period of severe industry disruption that saw ACSA report a R1.5 billion loss before tax in 2022.

The appointment comes as the company enters a phase of financial recovery and infrastructure investment. ACSA reported a net profit of R1.1 billion for the year ended March 31, 2025, a significant increase from the R472 million recorded the previous year. Board chairperson Irvin Phenyane noted that Mthethwa’s institutional knowledge and financial expertise will be critical for the company’s next growth phase.
