AirTrunk secures $2.3 billion green loan for Johor hyperscale data centre

AirTrunk has obtained a US$2.3 billion green loan from a consortium of 30 lenders, led by ten global coordinators such as BNP Paribas and DBS Bank, to finance its JHB2 hyperscale data‑centre campus in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The financing, classified as green under the International Finance Corporation’s Blue Finance Guidelines 2.0, is the largest single‑asset green project‑finance transaction for a data centre in Malaysia. It will support a design power‑usage‑effectiveness (PUE) of 1.37 and incorporate advanced water‑efficient cooling technology.

Margin savings from the loan will feed AirTrunk’s social‑impact programme in Malaysia, covering recycled‑water projects in schools, disaster‑relief assistance with MERCY Malaysia and STEM education initiatives with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The deal reflects growing demand for energy‑efficient digital infrastructure across the Asia‑Pacific region.
