AirTrunk secures A$4.25 billion green loan for SYD3 expansion

AirTrunk has secured a A$4.25 billion green loan to fund the continued development of its SYD3 data centre campus in Western Sydney. The financing aims to expand infrastructure for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and other digital services. The project is expected to support more than 10,000 jobs across sectors including construction, engineering, logistics, and safety.

A consortium of 32 local and international financial institutions, including NAB, ING Bank, BNP Paribas, and Deutsche Bank, backed the loan. The facility is structured with margin adjustments, where any savings from these margins will be directed to AirTrunk’s social impact program to support charities focused on STEM education, digital equity, biodiversity, and disaster relief.

The expansion supports AirTrunk’s goal of achieving net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. The company also intends to reduce Scope 3 emissions by using lower-carbon steel and concrete, with a target to divert at least 90 per cent of non-hazardous construction waste from landfills. The SYD3 expansion is currently underway, with completion expected by mid-2028.
