AI's Influence on Workplace Recognition and Consulting Services

Adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping modern workplaces, promising higher efficiency and productivity. However, employees report a paradox: openly acknowledging AI assistance can lead managers to attribute most of the work to the technology, diminishing individual recognition. In New York, healthcare analyst Aubrey was pressured to credit an AI chatbot for a project she largely completed herself, resulting in a disappointing performance review. Similarly, Deepak, a software engineer in India, found that disclosing use of AI programming tools hindered his expected promotion.

In parallel, consulting giant McKinsey & Co. predicts a “golden age” for the industry driven by AI. The firm expects a surge in demand for specialized consultants to help businesses manage AI, geopolitical shifts, and energy transitions. McKinsey has already reduced support‑staff roles by leveraging AI while expanding its consulting workforce, with each consultant typically using three AI agents to boost productivity. The firm’s Global Managing Partner, Bob Sternfels, views AI as a growth lever rather than a threat, anticipating increased hiring and higher market demand through the end of the decade.
