Aisne, France suffers two rural fires destroying haystack and brush

A large fire broke out on the night of 24–25 July in Audigny, Aisne, engulfing an 600‑bale haystack (about 3 000 tonnes of straw) stored near the Guise–Landifay road. Firefighters from Guise, Étréux and Marle monitored the blaze throughout the night and allowed it to burn under constant surveillance, reporting no risk to nearby homes or crops. The incident is being investigated as a possible arson, with the gendarmerie opening a formal inquiry.

In a separate incident at Ourouer‑les‑Bourdelins, also in Aisne, a brush fire consumed roughly one hectare of vegetation. Local fire services deployed ground crews and aerial units to contain the flames, establishing firebreaks and protecting nearby roads and residences. Early assessments indicate limited structural damage, and the fire was halted before reaching denser woodland.

Both events highlight the challenges of rural fire management in the region during the hot summer period and have prompted coordinated responses from municipal fire brigades and law‑enforcement agencies.
