Ait Melloul university professors demand faculty independence

Professors at the Ait Melloul university hub, part of Ibn Zohr University, are demanding an end to the shared use of a single building by two separate institutions. The Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Languages, Arts and Human Sciences are calling for full administrative and pedagogical independence to resolve ongoing operational difficulties.

In a statement issued by the local offices of the National Union of Higher Education, faculty members criticized the university presidency for failing to honor previous agreements. They noted that while a practical plan to transition the institutions into independent entities was presented during meetings in March, May, and June 2026, the university has failed to follow through. A scheduled meeting in July to finalize details did not take place.

The union is demanding the immediate provision of necessary buildings, equipment, and facilities to ensure autonomy. Additionally, they are calling for a permanent solution to access issues at the Ait Melloul campus to alleviate daily hardships faced by students, professors, and staff.
