Aitolo protest sparks speculation of new political movement

Thanasis Avgerinos, Katerina Moutsatsou, and Takis Kotsorgios, the head of the Panhellenic Fishing Network, recently participated in a large-scale protest at the bridges of Aitolo. The demonstration was organized to demand solutions for the long-standing environmental degradation of the Mesolonghi–Aitolo lagoon.

The three figures share a recent political history, having all departed from Maria Karystianou’s ‘Elpida gia ti Dimokratia’ (Hope for Democracy) party. While Avgerinos has not explicitly announced the formation of a new political entity, his presence alongside Moutsatsou and Kotsorgios has sparked speculation regarding a potential new political movement. Avgerinos described the appearance as a sign of ‘unity among protest movements and active citizens’ and signaled a commitment to more frequent participation in social activism and local movements.
