Aix-Marseille Université extends teleworking to combat rising fuel costs

Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) has extended its exceptional teleworking arrangement until December 31, 2026, to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs on its staff. The measure, which has been in place since April, allows eligible employees to work remotely for up to three days per week.

To ensure operational continuity, staff must maintain a minimum presence of two days per week on-site. The university's 8,500 employees are spread across 54 sites in ten cities and four departments. Data from the institution indicates that approximately 45% of personnel use a car or motorcycle for commuting, traveling an average of 22 kilometers per trip.

University President Éric Berton stated that the decision is part of an effort to address purchasing power and improve quality of life at work. The university noted that nearly one-third of eligible staff have utilized the arrangement since its inception. The policy may be adjusted if fuel prices stabilize or if service requirements change.
