Aix‑Luynes Prison Guard Sexual Assault Allegations Trigger Investigation

A 26‑year‑old detainee at the Aix‑Luynes prison in Bouches‑du‑Rhône filed a complaint accusing two prison guards of raping him. The alleged assault took place on 20 May 2026 in a shower within the disciplinary wing. The detainee was said to have been rendered unconscious after ingesting numerous anxiolytics and sleeping pills, after which he suffered rectal bleeding and was given 18 days of total work incapacity.

The prosecutor’s office in Aix‑en‑Provence opened a preliminary inquiry for aggravated rape committed by public officials. The detainee is serving a two‑year sentence for rebellion, threats of death and violence against officials, and had previously lodged a complaint of abuse a month before the alleged rape, followed by a second complaint two weeks after the incident.
