A.J. Brown joins New England Patriots in trade from Eagles

The New England Patriots completed a trade for wide receiver A.J. Brown on June 1, sending the Philadelphia Eagles a 2028 first‑round pick and a 2027 fifth‑round pick. The timing allowed the Eagles to limit cap acceleration, reducing the 2026 cap hit to $16.4 million instead of $43 million. Brown, 29, will become a Patriots player after the trade, with the team holding a $27.45 million option bonus that must be exercised before the first regular‑season game. His contract for 2028 and 2029 is set at $32 million and $31 million respectively, both non‑guaranteed, effectively betting on his performance at age 30.

Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs praised Brown’s on‑field abilities and character, saying, “It’s amazing. He’s an amazing football player, but his human acts will inspire off the field.” Doubs, who recorded 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, is expected to work alongside Brown in the Patriots’ receiving corps under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
