AJ Styles Fills In as Temporary NXT Coach at WWE Performance Center
AJ Styles clarified that his role at the WWE Performance Center is temporary. He is covering for NXT coach Terry Taylor, who is out after knee surgery, and is not a full‑time coach. Styles said he is "just filling in until he’s back" and is enjoying the opportunity to make practical adjustments to training sessions.
The former WWE champion, who retired in January and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, continues to work as a talent scout and occasional producer. He recently helped produce the Tony D’Angelo vs. Naraku street fight and the NXT Underground match between Lola Vice and Kendal Grey. Styles confirmed he has no interest in a creative‑writing role within the company.
His new contract keeps him involved behind the scenes, but his coaching duties remain limited to the short‑term replacement of the injured coach.
