AJ Williams Reclassifies to 2027, Impacting Duke and Georgia Tech Recruiting

Top high‑school basketball prospect AJ Williams, a 6‑foot‑7/6‑foot‑8 guard from Eagles Landing Christian Academy in Georgia, announced he will move from the Class of 2028 to the Class of 2027. The reclassification drops him to the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 2 small forward in the 2027 composite rankings.

Williams, who was the No. 1 recruit for 2028, now draws intense interest from several Power‑Five programs. Georgia Tech is listed as the early favorite to sign him, with Auburn close behind, while schools such as UConn, Duke, North Carolina, Illinois and Mississippi State are also in the mix. Duke head coach Jon Scheyer confirmed the Blue Devils have offered Williams and expect his decision to shape their broader 2027 recruiting strategy.

Williams, now 17, said he plans to visit at least nine schools when official visits begin in the fall, keeping the competition for his commitment fierce across the Southeast and beyond.
