Ajaccio bar destroyed in suspected arson attack

The Bar des Lacs in Ajaccio was completely destroyed by fire during the night of Wednesday to Thursday. Deputy Prosecutor Sterenn Hell stated that investigators are prioritizing the theory of criminal origin.

Preliminary findings suggest that perpetrators poured two canisters of gasoline inside the restaurant and onto the owner's vehicle parked in front, destroying both. While a blast effect was noted inside the establishment, no traces of explosives were found. Two canisters were recovered on an exterior walkway and in a nearby parking lot.

The investigation has been assigned to the Corse-du-Sud Interdepartmental Judicial Police Service (DCOS). Charges being investigated include the destruction of property by dangerous means and the transport of incendiary substances. This incident follows another fire involving a historic beach hut in Ajaccio just one week prior.
