AJAM intensifies operations against illegal mining in Bolivia

The Administrative Mining Jurisdictional Authority (AJAM) has intensified operations to combat illegal mining activities across Bolivia. In the Milluni area near El Alto, authorities intervened near the Milluni dam after reports of unauthorized land removal and the presence of machinery. Inspectors noted a peculiar coloration in the water, a finding that will be reported to relevant agencies for environmental evaluation. Consequently, AJAM has ordered the cessation of mining activities in that sector.

In the Salar de Uyuni Fiscal Reserve, AJAM executed an intervention against one of the largest unauthorized mining operations detected within the security zone. National Director Jaime Sanabria Goitia stated that approximately ten unauthorized operations exist within the security strip. These actions are part of a national plan to curb irregular exploitation, despite the institution facing economic limitations. The authority also denied requests from mining cooperatives to reduce the protected surface area of the Fiscal Reserve.
