Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman responds to Virgil van Dijk comparison

Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman has responded to comments from trainer Míchel Sánchez, who compared the nineteen-year-old's playing style to that of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

Bouwman described the comparison as a “very beautiful compliment” but noted that he still has a long way to go to reach that level. He cited Van Dijk's presence, passing, and composure as qualities he admires and views as role models.

Reflecting on his development, Bouwman shared that he was originally a striker before being converted into a defender during his time at Ajax. He acknowledged recent mistakes on the pitch, such as during a match against Telstar, but emphasized that he is working hard to improve his defensive skills and heading. He noted that Sánchez provides him with confidence and support following errors.
