Ajax eyes several midfield targets as transfer window heats up

Ajax Amsterdam has been active in the summer transfer market, targeting multiple midfield players. The club offered a contract to free‑agent Julian Brandt, the 30‑year‑old German midfielder who recently left Borussia Dortmund. A potential move for Dani Ceballos fell through after the Spanish side Real Madrid and the player could not reach an agreement, prompting Ajax to move on.

Negotiations for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc‑André Ter Stegen stalled over salary and Financial Fair‑Play issues, further highlighting Ajax’s pursuit of a new keeper. In addition, Ajax has shown interest in Croatian midfielder Toni Fruk of HNK Rijeka, with Premier League clubs also bidding for him. Club officials have said they intend to add a quality “number six” and a creative midfielder to strengthen the central area of the squad.

These activities reflect Ajax’s broader strategy to reinforce its midfield and defensive lines ahead of the upcoming season.
