Ajax to Seek New First‑Choice Goalkeeper Ahead of Summer Transfer Window
Ajax has confirmed that it will look for a new first‑team goalkeeper during the upcoming summer transfer period. Club watcher Mike Verweij told the De Telegraaf podcast that the current Dutch‑based keeper Maarten Paes, the Indonesian international who joined from Dallas FC, has been heavily criticised for his recent performances despite a recent penalty‑shootout heroics against FC Utrecht. Verweij said Paes “has been through the wringer” and “has not kept well”, adding that the club will search “hundred percent” for a new number‑one keeper. The club’s previous first‑choice, Vítezslav Jaros, was sidelined for a serious injury and has since returned to Liverpool. Ajax is also in the market for a new head coach, but the primary focus remains on securing a new goalkeeper.
