Ajay Mitchell named UCSB men's basketball general manager

Ajay Mitchell, a former UC Santa Barbara star and current Oklahoma City Thunder player, has been named the general manager for the UCSB men’s basketball program. This newly created position allows Mitchell to serve in an advisory capacity while continuing his professional career in the NBA.

In his role, Mitchell will provide mentorship to student-athletes, assist with the recruitment process, and help with player retention. He is also expected to support the program’s brand development, visibility, and alumni and donor engagement.

Mitchell previously led the Gauchos to the NCAA Tournament in 2023 and was named the Big West Player of the Year. Head coach Joe Pasternack noted that Mitchell’s involvement aims to help the program grow and mentor younger players.
