Ajinkya Deo reveals role change in upcoming Bollywood epic 'Ramayana

Actor Ajinkya Deo, cast as Guru Vishwamitra in the forthcoming Bollywood film "Ramayana," disclosed that he originally auditioned for the role of King Dashrath. After veteran actor Arun Govil was confirmed for Dashrath, the filmmakers offered Deo the part of Vishwamitra, which he accepted and described as a better fit.

The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra with Yash as co‑producer, is scheduled for a two‑part Diwali release in 2026 and 2027. It stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, with music composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Deo said he underwent several look tests before finalising his appearance as the sage.

Deo praised Govil’s casting as the ideal choice for Dashrath and expressed enthusiasm for portraying the gravitas of Vishwamitra, a key figure guiding Ram’s journey.
