Ajit Agarkar's tenure under review by BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to discuss the future of chief selector Ajit Agarkar during its Annual General Meeting on September 18. Agarkar’s current tenure is set to expire in September 2026, though reports suggest he may be eligible for a one-year extension that would keep him in the role until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Contract discussions have reportedly been complicated by internal disagreements regarding player selection, specifically the future of Rohit Sharma in the ODI squad. While selectors had allegedly indicated plans to move on from Sharma following a tour of England, the BCCI has issued conflicting public statements suggesting the veteran remains in contention. This lack of coordination has raised questions regarding the decision-making authority between the board and the selection committee.
