Ajit Doval meets Chinese Vice President Han Zheng to discuss border peace

Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing to discuss strengthening peace and tranquillity along the India-China border. The meeting focused on improving bilateral relations across economic, political, and multilateral sectors, following previous consensus reached by the leaders of both nations.

Doval, who serves as India's Special Representative on the India-China Boundary Question, is in Beijing for a two-day visit. He is scheduled to participate in the 25th round of Special Representatives' Talks with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This structured mechanism, established in 2003, serves as a primary channel for addressing the 3,488 km disputed border.

The talks occur amid ongoing tensions regarding the border and Arunachal Pradesh, following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and subsequent military stand-offs. These discussions are also seen as significant ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's anticipated visit to New Delhi for the BRICS summit in mid-September.
