Ajit Doval projects India GDP growth to $38 trillion at IIT Roorkee
At the IIT Roorkee convocation ceremony, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval projected that India’s GDP will grow from its current $4.015 trillion to $38 trillion over the next 20 years. Addressing 2,701 graduates, Doval described the current generation as the ‘luckiest in a millennium’ due to unprecedented technological and economic opportunities during the ‘Amrit Kaal’ period leading to 2047.
Doval shared personal anecdotes from his early career as an intelligence officer in Sikkim, including a high-stakes mission where his team was detained by Chinese forces. He also recounted lessons learned from a Tibetan Sherpa regarding success: knowing one’s location, knowing the destination, and knowing the path to return.
Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani also addressed the students, emphasizing that ‘Bharat is not a geography but a responsibility.’ He introduced the ‘DHARA’ acronym—disruptive, hyper-connectedness, asymmetry, realignment, and autonomy—to describe the shifting global landscape and urged future engineers to build resilient systems to navigate these changes.
