Ajit Doval to hold 25th India-China border talks in Beijing

Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Monday to participate in the 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks regarding the India-China boundary issue. The meeting, set for Tuesday, will involve Doval and his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The discussions aim to address the 3,488-km border dispute and seek a political solution through the SR mechanism established in 2003. Key agenda items are expected to include the status of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), troop disengagement, de-escalation, and border management. These talks follow a period of heightened tension stemming from the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

The diplomatic engagement occurs ahead of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, scheduled for September 12-13. There is speculation regarding the potential attendance of Chinese President Xi Jinping, which could lead to a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has emphasized that maintaining peace and stability along the border is a prerequisite for healthy bilateral relations.
