Ajit Sahu arrested in Bhubaneswar over alleged cheating case

Police in Bhubaneswar have arrested Ajit Sahu, the son of former Odisha minister Nrusingha Sahu, in connection with an alleged cheating case involving Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar. The arrest follows a warrant issued by a Delhi court after Sahu was declared a proclaimed offender for failing to appear in court regarding a 2024 complaint.

According to the complaint filed by the MP, Sahu allegedly took money—reported as Rs 25 lakh in one account—under the promise of arranging land in Trisulia, but failed to deliver the plot or refund the funds.

Sahu has denied the allegations of land fraud, characterizing the matter as a personal financial dispute. He claimed he had borrowed money from Kumar and had already repaid approximately 75 percent of the amount. He further alleged that the legal action surfaced after the MP changed political affiliations. Sahu remains in custody pending further legal proceedings and potential transit to Delhi.
