Political maneuvering is intensifying ahead of the Ajmer Municipal Corporation mayoral election scheduled for September 21. The contest features a direct matchup between BJP nominee Anamika Sharma and Congress candidate Kiran Garhwal, both of whom filed their nominations on Wednesday.

In an effort to maintain unity and prevent alleged influence from the BJP, the Congress party has moved 37 of its councillors and five Independent councillors to Bengaluru. The group, led by former RTDC Chairman Dharmendra Rathore, is expected to remain in Bengaluru until September 20.

The election outcome hinges on Independent councillors, as the 80-ward corporation requires 41 votes for a majority. Current seat counts show the Congress holding 37 seats, the BJP holding 32, and Independents holding 11. While the Congress claims support from five Independents, former Deputy Mayor Neeraj Jain stated that 11 Independent councillors are actually supporting the BJP.
