Ajvatovica Festival Attracts Thousands of Pilgrims and 320 Horsemen in Bosnia

The 516th edition of the "Days of Ajvatovica" religious‑cultural festival was held on 27‑28 June 2026 in Donji Vakuf, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thousands of faithful walked the historic Ajvaz‑deda rock and attended prayers, while a procession of 320 horsemen from across the country took part in a traditional cavalcade. Speakers including muftis Ahmed‑ef Adilović and Ismail‑ef Smajlović highlighted themes of spiritual unity, national heritage and the importance of averting division. The program featured the Turkish Mehter military band, a choir from the Elči Ibrahim‑paša madrasa and the group “Rejjan”, among other cultural and sporting events.

The local tourist board and police issued traffic advisories for the weekend. On Saturday, 27 June, a horse parade moved through Donji Vakuf between 15:30 and 19:00, prompting a complete road closure in the town centre from 17:30 to 18:30. On Sunday, 28 June, increased traffic was expected after the religious programme, and drivers were urged to follow police instructions, reduce speed and avoid using sirens near the riders.
