AK Parti seeks parliamentary transfers for constitutional changes

Following recent parliamentary developments, discussions have emerged regarding strategies to pass a new constitution in Turkey without a referendum. To bypass a referendum, a supermajority of 400 votes is required in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Currently, the combined total of the Cumhur İttifakı (AK Parti and MHP) and the DEM Parti stands at 382 deputies, leaving an 18-vote deficit to reach the 400-vote threshold. Reports suggest that AK Parti may attempt to bridge this gap through deputy transfers. Specifically, claims indicate that three deputies—two from İYİ Parti and one from YENİ Parti—could potentially join AK Parti.

Additionally, signals from Saadet Partisi leader Mahmut Arıkan regarding a potential meeting with the Cumhur İttifakı have reportedly generated significant interest within the ruling coalition. If these transfers and political alignments occur, the coalition aims to secure the necessary votes for constitutional changes.
