AK Party marks 24th anniversary of coming to power

The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) is marking the 24th anniversary of its rise to power following the November 3, 2002, general elections. In the 2002 elections, the party secured 34.28 percent of the vote and 363 parliamentary seats, allowing it to form a single-party government.

Key milestones during the party's tenure include the implementation of European Union harmonization packages, constitutional reforms, and the launch of the Health Transformation Program. The latter unified various social security institutions, such as SSK, Bağ-Kur, and the Emekli Sandığı, into the Social Security Institution (SGK) in 2006.

Party officials, including AK Party Secretary General Eyyüp Kadir İnan and Aydın Deputy Mustafa Savaş, characterized the 2002 election as a historic turning point that overcame political tutelage and established the will of the people. They emphasized the party's continued commitment to the goals of the People's Alliance and the pursuit of a "Terror-free Turkey."
