AK Party proposes local government reforms in Turkey
AK Party Deputy Chairman Mustafa Demir has announced a series of reform proposals aimed at local governments, focusing on transparency, accountability, and financial structure. A key component of the proposed model would allow citizens to request the reconsideration of municipal council decisions by collecting a certain number of digital signatures.
Demir emphasized that the reforms aim to subject municipalities to independent audits rather than relying solely on the Court of Accounts and the Ministry of Interior. The package includes five main pillars: transparency and audit, management model development, financial structure, new applications, and implementation.
In separate political developments, YENİ Party spokesperson Zeynel Emre criticized the current administration's economic and legal policies during a provincial congress in Malatya. Emre also addressed legal debates regarding political party congresses, rejecting claims of 'absolute nullity' in the context of recent political shifts.
