AK Sharma advocates for scientific waste management in Uttar Pradesh
AK Sharma, the Uttar Pradesh Minister for Urban Development and Energy, stated that scientific and modern solid waste management is essential for creating clean, beautiful, and healthy cities. Speaking at a seminar during the fourth International Trade Show at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Sharma emphasized that waste management is linked to environmental health, the economy, and the future of upcoming generations.
He noted that properly collecting, segregating, and processing urban waste can transform it into significant economic opportunities. Potential sectors for investment and job creation include compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy, biofuels, recycling, and re-processing.
Sharma highlighted that while the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has turned cleanliness into a mass movement, there is a need to make it more sustainable through modern technology and public participation. Effective waste management can also improve quality of life and reduce air pollution by preventing the open burning of garbage. He cited the success of the solid waste processing plant in Shivri, Lucknow, as a model for such efforts.
