Akçaabat International Music and Folk Festival Opens in Turkey

The 34th International Akçaabat Music and Folk Dance Festival began in the Akçaabat district of Trabzon, Turkey, with a colourful parade through the town centre. Folk groups from Turkey and abroad marched in traditional costumes, performing short dances that drew strong applause from residents. The opening ceremony included a wreath laid at the Atatürk Monument, a moment of silence, and the playing of the national anthem.

Mayor Osman Nuri Ekim emphasized the event’s cultural and economic importance, saying the festival is “not only a culture and art organization but a platform of friendship, brotherhood and common values.” He highlighted its role in promoting Akçaabat’s heritage, tourism, and local economy. Additional activities featured a Yeşilçam film‑poster exhibition, a recreated village wedding, and performances culminating in a final show on Hıdırnebi Plateau, where rapper Eypio is scheduled to appear. The festivities will continue over three days, bringing together residents and international visitors.
