Akademiska sjukhuset misdiagnoses 58 women, leading to unnecessary surgeries

At Akademiska sjukhuset in Uppsala, 58 women were subjected to unnecessary surgeries after receiving incorrect EIN diagnoses. The diagnosis, which suggests uterine tissue changes could lead to cancer, resulted in the removal of uteri, and in several cases, ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Victims report permanent physical and psychological consequences, including severe menopausal symptoms, weight gain, pain, incontinence, and a loss of identity. Despite the lifelong impact, some women have received compensation as low as 3,500 SEK through the insurance company LÖF.
