Akçakoca Historic Prison in Düzce Set to Open as Library
The T‑type prison in the Akçakoca district of Düzce, Turkey—built in 1965 and closed in 2013—is being repurposed as a library and social‑life centre.
The restoration, overseen by Düzce Mayor Dr. Faruk Özlü, includes strengthening stone walls, plastering interior spaces, installing fire‑brick around doors and windows, preserving existing iron bars, adding a retractable glass roof and landscaping a two‑acre site. Work is 30‑40 % complete and is progressing ahead of schedule, with completion expected by the end of the year.
