Krk restaurant incident sparks debate after tourists asked to leave

A dispute at a restaurant on the Croatian island of Krk has sparked social media debate after four Hungarian tourists were reportedly asked to leave after ordering only dessert. The group, consisting of four young men, waited approximately 10 to 15 minutes for a table during a busy evening period. Upon being seated, each individual ordered a portion of pancakes priced at €7, totaling a €28 bill.

According to reports, the waiter reacted negatively to the order, questioning why the group wished to consume only dessert during peak hours while other customers were waiting for tables. The waiter subsequently requested that the group vacate the table. The incident has divided public opinion: some argue that customers should have the freedom to order any item, while others defend the restaurant's right to prioritize full meals during high-traffic periods to maximize revenue.

In response to the incident, Mira Horváth, a senior representative of the Croatian National Tourist Board, stated that there is no general legislation in Croatia requiring a minimum spend in restaurants. However, she noted that establishments are obligated to clearly display their prices and terms of service and must adhere to them.
