Akdeniz University announces 28th Environmental Service Award winners
Akdeniz University has announced the winners of its 28th Environmental Service Awards, a long-standing recognition program in Turkey that honors contributions to ecology, pollution prevention, and environmental policy.
In the science categories, Prof. Dr. Ülkü Yetiş received the Science Honor Award, Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge received the Science Service Award, and Zelal Işık received the Science Incentive Award for their work in environmental science and engineering.
At the national level, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality was recognized for its sustainable greenhouse model using waste heat, and Çorum Municipality was honored for producing PLA filament from plastic waste. The General Directorate of Environmental Management under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change also received an award for establishing the UN Integrated Climate Change Regional Activity Centre (CC/RAC) in Turkey.
Regional awards included Süleyman Demirel Primary and Middle School in Antalya for school-based sustainable management, and Serpil Satı Toktaş at Akdeniz University for a project focused on green consciousness and environmental awareness. The award ceremony for the 2025 winners is planned for October 2026.
