Akşehir irrigation project to cover 5,220 decares of land
Work is progressing on the Değirmenköy-Gölçayır Pond Irrigation project in the Akşehir district of Konya. Managed by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) 4th Regional Directorate, the project involves HDPE pipe welding and excavation to establish a modern irrigation network.
Once completed, the project will provide modern irrigation to 5,220 decares of agricultural land within the Değirmenköy and Gölçayır neighborhoods. The goal is to ensure water is delivered to crops in a more regular and controlled manner, improving the efficiency of existing water resources.
These investments come amid recent drought challenges in the Konya Plain. While meteorological data indicates that rainfall in Turkey reached its highest level in 66 years during the 2025-2026 water year, modernizing irrigation infrastructure remains a priority for sustainable agricultural production in the region.
