Akşehir Western Front Headquarters Museum preserves Turkish War of Independence history

The Akşehir Western Front Headquarters Museum in Turkey offers visitors a historical experience centered on the Turkish War of Independence. Originally built as a municipal building between 1904 and 1905, the structure served as the Western Front Headquarters from November 18, 1921, until August 24, 1922. It was the site where preparations for the Great Offensive were made and the decision for the operation was finalized.

Following its transfer to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1964, the building underwent several restorations and was reopened in its current form in 2001. The museum preserves the original study rooms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Commander İsmet Paşa, and Chief of Staff Asım Gündüz.

Exhibits include photographs, documents, weapons, swords, medals, and personal belongings from the independence era. Notable displays feature war plans in Atatürk’s office, photographs of Atatürk and İsmet İnönü in Akşehir, and biographical information regarding the officers who served at the headquarters.
