AKEL party expels former MP Kostas Kosta indefinitely

The AKEL political party has indefinitely expelled former Limassol Member of Parliament Kostas Kosta. The decision was reached unanimously in early October following a report from the party’s Central Control Committee.

According to party sources, the disciplinary action was taken after an investigation into complaints regarding a series of anti-party and subversive behaviors deemed harmful to the party’s reputation. Kosta confirmed he was notified of the decision via telephone but declined to provide further comment.

Kosta served three consecutive terms as an MP for Limassol starting in 2011 and was the top vote-getter in the 2021 elections. Tensions with party leadership had previously escalated following his disagreement with the party's support for Andreas Mavroyiannis in the 2023 presidential elections, which led to his resignation from the Central Committee.
