Aker Solutions and Microsoft partner on carbon capture projects
Aker Solutions and Microsoft have entered into a strategic agreement to accelerate the development and global delivery of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects.
The partnership aims to improve project maturity and bankability while reducing execution risks. By combining Aker Solutions’ engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) expertise with Microsoft’s digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data analytics, the companies intend to shorten development cycles and move projects more efficiently toward final investment decisions (FID).
A key component of the collaboration involves integrating monitoring, reporting, and verification systems. These digital tools are intended to provide precise oversight of captured CO2 volumes, which is essential for generating high-quality carbon removal credits in the global market. The initiative supports Microsoft’s goal to become carbon negative by 2030.
