Akhil Gogoi begins hunger strike in flood-hit Assam
Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has launched a hunger strike in flood-ravaged Sivasagar, Assam, to demand relief for families affected by recent flooding. Gogoi is calling for ₹10 lakh in compensation for every family impacted by the disaster.
In addition to financial aid, Gogoi is demanding that the floods be declared a national disaster to draw attention from the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. He has also called for a CBI investigation to determine the causes of the massive flooding and to hold those responsible accountable.
Further protest actions are planned, including a demonstration at the ONGC establishment in Nazira and a potential march to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence in Dispur. Gogoi emphasized the need for immediate infrastructure reconstruction in the three heavily affected districts of upper Assam.
